Job Description


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, college/university preferred

  • Knowledge of: Standard practices and procedures used to operate a Vehicle Storage and Handling Facility safely and efficiently
  • Knowledge of Electronic Data Interchange
  • Leadership and supervisory skills are key to the position
  • Principles of report writing and record keeping
  • Write and maintain routine and or complex records according to federal & provincial standards prepare reports and correspondence
  • Utilize fleet maintenance software and other computer programs including, but not limited to office and word processor programs
  • Communicate effectively in order to interact on both a formal and informal basis with a wide range of contacts
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, carry and lift light to medium weight materials (10 - 50 pounds)


  • Supervisory experience is a key requirement
  • Pass pre-employment medical / Criminal Background Check
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract
  • First Aid training or ability to acquire during probationary period
Work is performed out doors in all weather conditions/Work in tight spaces on railcar

  • Plans, prioritizes, assigns, manages, supervises and reviews the work of staff responsible for the movement of new customer vehicles to / from yard and onto rail cars from staging lines in a safe and efficient manner
  • Determine & set target and projections as well as assist with special requests
  • Participates in the selection of vehicle maintenance staff
  • Provides or coordinates staff training. Works with employees to correct deficiencies, enters damages into claims system & files damage report documents
  • Prepares various reports on operations. Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives
  • Reviews daily vehicle inspection reports for noted deficiencies and assists yard associates with surveys and requisitions - causes necessary effective corrective action through electronic work order system
  • Oversight of scheduling and methods for providing the safe movement of vehicles. Implements policies and procedures
  • Participates in the preparation and administration of the budget. Submits budget recommendations. Monitors expenditures
  • Assists in developing and implementing specifications for the purchase or sale of fleet equipment.
  • Develops a variety of written materials, such as annual evaluations of all staff, reports, memos, letters, procedures, manuals, etc. for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information
  • Supervises department personnel functions. (e.g. hiring and termination recommendations, planning, scheduling, coordinating activities, training, advising, etc.)
  • Ensures that the department functions in an efficient manner and that adopted policies and procedures are followed
  • Performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Exercises judgment and discretion in accounting for the efficient and effective use of staff, supplies, and equipment and the time to provide optimum service
